Christmas Yet Again

30 Dec

This is the rough outline of how our day went last Sunday:

8:00am: Wake up and read family scriptures.

8:45: Eat breakfast. Cold cereal!!! (In our house, that is pretty much a once a year treat)

9:30: Get ready for church. (KQW decides to keep wearing her PJs just for the fun of it.)

10:00: Church. Almost everyone in the family is in the ward choir so we sing most of the time.

11:00: Church is finally over. (Because of the holiday, we only had sacrament meeting.)

11:30: We finally think about leaving church (but it seems to take forever).

12:00: We finally make it home. We also had some friend’s come to our house right after church.

12:15: We finally get to open presents! (Why did the first half of the day take so long?)

Oh and just in case you were wondering where all the wrapping paper is…well there isn’t any. Santa seems to always forget to wrap our presents or something. So he just dumps it all on the floor and throws a blanket over the top.

12:45: Everything is over. Time to get lazy for a while.

3:00: But not for too long! Moore friends show up. That was a pun by the way. Their last name is Moore. They have 3 young children. Anything else you want to know?

3:15: The missionaries show up and we eat dinner. Turkey, potatoes and pizza. Pizza? Yes that’s what I said. Hey! That’s what the missionaries wanted!

4:00: The craziness ensues as now we are finished eating. The missionaries leave. Everyone else is still here.

5:00: Mom opens a mysterious present: (See the complicated presentation of “the gift” that took months to make…and made mom cry and cry… in a good way, of course.)

5:30: We bid all of our friends farewell. The Moore’s (who happen to be visiting from out of town) just temporarily leave to visit family.

6:00 We sit down and watch “It’s a Wonderful Life”… gotta love YouTube!  (Mom cries more.)

9:00: The Moore’s get back and there is a short little burst of energy before bed.  All must get ready for bed to open the “Christmas Night family gift” that is tradition for us.  (Something that mom’s family did growing up.)  This year, the present was a bedtime story read by mom… A Christmas Orange (go to the link so you can read it. She chose version #3 because of the baseball element to the story.)  She didn’t even cry when she read it out loud…much!  After the story we opened a chocolate orange and each got one segment and we determined to share the rest with someone else.

10:00 Most people are in bed. Most of them… except for the ones that weren’t.
